Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye (2020 Special Release)
Rye — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 1, 2020 (edited January 8, 2021)Haven't seen anyone review this bad boy yet, so I figured I'd take a stab at it. Nose: lots of banana, smells of rye definitely woft through, sweet, and spicey rye notes. At times I get a faint bourbon nose. The nose smells incredible. The rye funk is present, call it dew or tea, it all blends together and I call it rye magic. A bit of herbal elements can be picked up as well. A faint nail polisher remover can be smelt at times but a quick swirl does away with that. Lastly dill was picked up for me Palate: Make no mistake about it, this is a rye, a big rush of that rye funk smacks your palate. The hug is felt all the way down. The proof doesn't overwhelm me though. This has to be the smoothest 130 proof I've had. The only place I'm getting the abv is on the way down. I get the banana(bread) and raisin fruitiness but it's masked more by the rye flavors. Some dark sugar, and robust flavors linger in the back, at times jumping to the front. I wouldn't say oily but its the perfect consistency. It doesn't smack you with a certain flavor but I pickup. Banana, dried fruit, pepper, tea, a slight dill, vanilla, burnt sugar, and musky grass boarding on hay. Finish: Incredibly smooth. Vanilla, pepper, then it flashes away with wet barn/grass. The finish is a bit of a let down for me. Could be longer Overall: I give this a very good rating, for 65 bucks i think it's a buy. It's not over the top rye or a barely legal rye bourbon drinkers rye lol. Just a damn good rye (whiskey). Super, super smooth. If you like rye, buy it, if you've had some barely legal rye and dig those, buy it. If you're looking for a high abv rye, buy it.65.0 USD per Bottle
