Wathen's Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 30, 2019 (edited August 14, 2019)Once again....on a road trip to find a bottle of Elmer T.....another false alarm. Drove 40 miles...clerk said: " false entry in the STATES inventory". Oh...WELL. ( I never leave a liquor store empty handed). This time I chose Wathen's single barrel. The price was $40.00 for 750ml jug. First...this spirit's proof fights above it's weight. It has a 100 proof "feel" on the palate. I found this spirit to have an unusual after taste that I can't associate with other bourbons with a corn heavy mashbill....more of a Scotch taste...Needless to say....NO....I don't know what's in it....but it seemed a bit overbearing. NOT A DAILY sipper. Wathen's DOES have a cool decanter....like Elmer T's. Square bottle with indentations, nice cork/barrel info on the side. OVERALL...I'd rate this spirit a 3.25 for for a unique flavor and a half star for the decanter. Wathen's HAS been added to my collection....not so much for flavor....but as a simi hard to find spirit with a cool decanter. CHEERS to ALL!40.0 USD per Bottle -
Early Times Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 16, 2019 (edited February 6, 2020)Boy this is a tough one. You know how you head for the liquor store "knowing what you want"......and POOF! you get there, the spirit you want isn't there? Well, I was looking for a second row bottle for the the decanter......(lots of good choices). The sales clerk introduced me to a third row bottle....What the heck?....100 proof bib for $22.00 for a full liter. (You know how you hate that a 750ml bottle "goes FAST".) Brought it home....did the usual stupid rituals .....not too bad! It seems like this would be a special treat for the "shooter's" in your crowd, but a bit of a harsh sipper. I gave this spirit 3.25 stars, PLUS 1 half star for being a good bargain. I will keep this spirit around for mixed drinks and shooters.22.0 USD per Bottle -
Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon

High West American Prairie Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in Utah), USA
Reviewed June 24, 2019 (edited March 24, 2020)I made a 30 mile road trip for a bottle of Elmer-T.....I found out the electronic inventory sheet for the liquor store was a day behind......I REFUSE to leave a liquor store "empty-handed"....especially a 30 mile one way trip. After MUCH coin flippin/chicken bone toss'n, I decided to try the High West. My first taste was....cross between, Irish whiskey and gosh knows what. It is BLENDED whiskey....it tastes very mellow...almost a "can't-put-my finger-on-it"....flavor. It was certainly a pleasant taste...easy sippin...My neighbor enjoyed a pour without ice or water. The bottle is worth saving... I would recommend this spirit..(if the price is right!) CHEERS! As a bit of an update...I had a neat of this at home last night....the alcohol burn was clearly a wake up. This spirit does have an over the top bite on first sip....29.95 USD per Bottle -
I picked this up today (looking for a house bourbon). Normally I have WT101 as my decanter bourbon. I received an email about "Jim Beam extra aged bourbon", so I decided to talk to the local liquor sales lady. She told me that this bourbon was selling very well, and that Jim Beam was having a SALE......well...that played right into my decision to try it. At 86 proof, the burn is mellow.. but there. The legs on this spirit, is like MOTOR OIL.....It looks like rain drops slowly inching it's way down the edge of the glass. The first taste, I noticed was the mellow vanilla flavor. I thought......for the price $20.95 for a 750ml bottle, this was pretty good bourbon. I wish I could offer a more in depth tasting...but..(due to my untrained nose and palate), this is as much as I can comment on. For an inexpensive spirit, It seems WORTH taking a chance on. CHEERS!20.95 USD per Bottle

Just finished the neat on this spirit...I noticed there was a bit of dill taste. (I finally recognized a flavor)...Since I am new to bourbon/whiskey collecting, I have struggled to get past the alcohol smell. Normally I can smell a burning electrical wire..a mile away...but whiskey/bourbon alludes me. SO....today is a milestone for me! This spirit was on sale at the local state ran store...I am happy to report....I would recommend Russell's to others, and share it with my non-shooting friends.29.95 USD per Bottle

This spirit is as warm as the 107 proof indicates. The heat seem to fade at about the half way point of a double shot. After the first taste, I added one small cube of ice, and the drink was very good. In Oregon, this bottle is a bit hard to find,(nothing a good road trip won't take care of). The price seems a bit high (state ran stores), but worth it.49.95 USD per Bottle

Henry McKenna 10 Year Bottled in Bond Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 25, 2019 (edited May 20, 2019)I waited 2 weeks to buy this bottle, as Oregon has state ran liquor stores. There were 12 bottles in the entire state.....so I either had to order and wait or do a long road trip. I chose to wait. The first thing I noticed was the 100 proof on the back of my throat. Very pronounced. I added one small ice cube....that did the trick. I believe the taste was worth the wait. Very nice flavor. IF you can find a bottle, I believe it's worth adding to your collection. The Oregon price of $34.95 seems fair for this spirit.34.95 USD per Bottle -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 17, 2019 (edited April 18, 2019)Very good sipping bourbon. Easy to find in most stores. I am new to collecting/tasting so my assessment as to the flavors are still limited. The smell has a light rye scent. The alcohol is not overwhelming for a 100 proof. I do enjoy this spirit with one small cube of ice = to a few drops of water. In Oregon, the liquor stores are state ran..so the price is the same everywhere.44.65 USD per Bottle
