Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 16, 2016 (edited December 2, 2016)Calling all barrel proof lovers! If you love the smell of a rick house this one is for you! I got a bottle at 139 proof from the gift shop in Bardstown and it is amazing. Strong carmel, oak, vanilla, fruit on the nose. This one is strong on the palate but displayes all the right flavors with just a few drops of water. The barrel is fore front (which i think is what heaven hill does best) with deep carmel and sweetness. The finish is long and very satisfying. Worth the trip to Kentuckey to get a bottle. -

This one is all about balance and it shows it with smooth transition and all the notes you expect. This is an excellent sipping spirit for the price range! -
James E. Pepper 1776 Straight Rye (100 Proof)
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed July 18, 2016 (edited November 2, 2019)A sweet and fruity rye the nose with citrus and slight barrel char. The palate is sweet with spice filling in riding through til the end. Not an overwhelming spice but plesant and warming. Just another example of how sourced whiskey can be done right. -
Very typical nose for a white rye, sweet and herbal cereal notes. The palate is soft for a rye. Green grass, herbs, and light spice on the back of the tongue. The finish is quick with spice. I found this light and wished the proof was over 90. Overall a promising rye. Can't wait to try the aged version.

Crown Royal Hand Selected Barrel
Canadian — Manitoba, Canada
Reviewed June 19, 2016 (edited September 9, 2017)Nuance is the key here. For 103 proof this stuff is exceptionally balanced! The nose finds tropical fruits of mango and passion fruit with sweet grain. The palate is crown goodness with rye and cereal and the afore mentioned fruit. The finish is medium with fruit and sweet grain. A delightful dram for all but especially for the crown fans.
