Gold Spot 9 Year Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed June 16, 2022 (edited July 28, 2022)Nose is great, taste is what I would expect out of the barrels used for aging. It is not mind blowing, but it is quite enjoyable. I am in Dublin the week of release and picked up two bottles. Came across a pour of it during my final drink (of many) of the trip so I had to try it so I don't open the bottle when I get home. Great even on a spent palate. Glad I got two bottles. 120€/700mL bottle at Jameson Bow St. Slainte15.0 EUR per PourThe Palace Bar -
New Riff Red Turkey Wheated Bourbon
Bourbon — kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 6, 2021 (edited November 21, 2022)New Riff Red Turkey Wheat Straight Bourbon Whiskey is Bottled in Bond (100 proof) without chill filtration and is aged at least 5 years. The mashbill is 70% corn, 25% red turkey wheat, 5% malted barley. MSRP $49.99. Nose: Sweet caramel, cinnamon, toasted oak, baking spices. Palate: Quick spice punch, minty, grainy, cinnamon, chewy, complex. Finish: drying, long, zesty, baking spices, with breadiness as the last remaining flavor. Comments: I let this first pour of the bottle breathe in the pictured New Riff stemless mini glencairn glass for about 15 minutes before tasting. Interested in the zestiness & spiciness present for this 100 proof wheated bourbon. Did not experience the sweetness level I expect with wheated bourbons, but sweetness is somewhat present. With a drop or two of water, it was softer on the palate but still vibrant. New Riff disclosed that they obtained this red turkey wheat heirloom grain from talking with their friends in the baking community of the greater Cincinnati area. I would definitely buy this bottle again as it is enjoyable. To try to build on my tasting experience of this bourbon, I poured some Maker's Mark 101 & Weller Antique 107 from my collection. I tasted each separately while following up each taste of these bourbons with the New Riff. New Riff has the most spice & zestiness and is a top contender in complexity. Hope you found this review helpful. This bourbon is a new release so I wanted to share. I obtained the bottle on November 6th 2021 after securing the purchase online on the November 5th sale as a member of New Riff Whiskey Club. To my knowledge, it is being released only to New Riff Rangers, Whiskey Club members, & an allocated release in the KY market.49.99 USD per BottleNew Riff Distilling -
The nose presents an aroma of a frosted doughnut. Palate presented with brown sugar sweetness and oak with pecans lingering at the end. The flavors remain for a few seconds as the finish is quick. A sip of water prior to my next taste seems to present the same experience with a little more balance to it all. It is a great American whiskey for the proof and process of this product.

Booker's Bourbon Batch 2021-02 "Tagalong Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 9, 2021 (edited September 12, 2021)The usual complex Booker's nose which includes vanilla, leather/oak combo, but a slightly less alcohol burn & more cinnamon than other batches. I concur with the distiller's notes of "sweet brown wood sugar " mouth flavor as it is a great description. Less peanut nose & taste than my normal Booker's experience. Creamy mouthfeel. To me, this batch is defined by the accomplishment that is the finish. Most notably, the whiskey swims down the esophagus in a welcoming way without the alcohol heat quickly ramping up in my mouth, throat, and chest immediately after the swallow like previous batches. Finish has an immediate spice pop, with baking spices dominating & peanut does come through as it lingers. Baking spices (cinnamon) present still after one minute. Due to the smooth finish, you will likely find yourself pouring from this bottle for another dram during your session. I have poured more drams than I normally do for a high-proofer on this one out of sheer enjoyment. Well done in my book. Note: This is my 1st published whiskey review & I only did so as I cannot find any reviews at all on the internet for this bottle that I purchased today 6/9/21. I have quite a whiskey collection and taste often, and most importantly, I published this to help you all with your purchasing decisions. I hope I was helpful. This is a Buy!89.99 USD per Bottle
