Alacrán Blanco Tequila
Auténtico Alacrán // Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Auténtico Alacrán ("authentic scorpion") was founded in 2010 and is based in Mexico City. Their blanco tequila, first appearing in the US in 2011, is double-distilled in column stills from 100% blue Weber agave at the Tierra de Agaves distillery (NOM 1513) in Jalisco's Tequila Valley - the specific coordinates are 20° 51' N 103° 45' W. The clear spirit is presented in a matte black bottle.
Tequila BlancoDistilled from 100% blue Weber agave, it is typically unaged , clear, and bottled straight after distillation. Sometimes rested in stainless steel up to 60 days and can also be aged in wood for no more than 30 days.
"Crushed agave mingles with intimations of dried herbs and flowers on the nose; there's a soapy, lavender quality that seems nostalgically old-fashioned. The entry on the palate teases with a slight brininess bolstered by a touch of white pepper (green olives are a great accompaniment); the finish is average and consistent but brings nothing new to the party."
