Alberta Springs 10 Year
Alberta Distillers // Alberta, Canada
Alberta Distillers buys grain as a commodity so the actual grain content of some of their whiskies can change from batch to batch. Consistent flavor, though is maintained through careful selection of the mature whiskies that go into each batch. So, this could be 100% rye, but it also might not be. Regardless, in its ten years in the barrels it has picked up a lot of crisp clean wood to become the top of the Alberta Distillers line and their only regular product bearing an age statement.
CanadianDISTILLED IN CANADA AND AGED IN BARRELS FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS; OFTEN (BUT NOT ALWAYS) CANADIAN WHISKIES ARE BLENDS OF CORN, BARLEY, AND RYE WHISKIES WHICH WERE DISTILLED AND MATURED SEPARATELY. TRADITIONALLY, CANADIAN WHISKEY IS CALLED “RYE”, ALTHOUGH NO MINIMUM PERCENTAGE OF RYE-GRAIN WHISKY IS REQUIRED IN A BLEND.
"Richly sweet with fiery pepper over layers of fruit, grain and rye spices. Dusty rye with a slight sourness on the nose becomes richly sweet on the palate with vanilla and crème caramel. Green apples, red grapes, and dried fruits ride waves of hot pepper and luscious caramel. Finishes in dry grain, hints of fresh-cut lumber and mild citrus pith. Deceivingly simple to begin with, then unfolds in many layers. "
