Astringent, spicy, fruity, peaty, smoky, oaky, berries, peppers, ash - all at once. It does feel like a whirlpool in the mouth. Hard hitting mouth feel, lights up the taste buds but also subsides fairly quickly. The peat, smoke, and tannins linger as usual with ardbeg, but the all over mouth feel disappears quickly.
Second sip is cherries, stone fruit, numbing sensation, warmth, spice - wow.
Not a forgetful dram. Also, 114 proof certainly makes you perk up.
Ardbeg is already my favorite distillery and this is quickly becoming one of my favorite offerings from them. It’s a punch to the senses and I love it.
