About 120,000 metric tons of unsold bread are wasted each year in the Netherlands alone. Bakers Best Genever, introduced in 2017, is made from leftover bread donated by local bakers in its creation. About seven slices of bread are used for each bottle. Each batch will vary as the bread donated varies. This genever is made in the oude style with about 25% malt wine.
GeneverGenever is a juniper-flavored spirit which combines a botanically-flavored, neutral spirit with a maltwine. Only made in Belgium, the Netherlands, and in specific regions of France and Germany. Jonge genever is made with a maximum of 15% maltwine. Oude genever uses at least 15% of maltwine. Korenwijn genever uses at least 51% of maltwine.
