This one caught me by surprise. Bought this bottle with the assumption that it was a good peated scotch not a great peated scotch. I was wrong. It’s a great peated whiskey and I am many bottles in by now.
If I were wearing a hat - I would tip it.
Enjoy.
Very smooth and pleasant peat here mixed with fruity and spicy notes. This is classic Speyside plus Highland peat which is much smoother than Islay. Smoke comes first on the nose and palette, then quickly gives way to the rest of the notes. Smoke returns on the finish and closes with a nice hit of spice. Smoke and spice linger for a few minutes. The rum cask makes this even tastier. A very enjoyable and superb malt for the collection. It's actually better without any water, as there's nothing excessive to really dilute here. Excellent value whisky!
