This release from the Blackened American Whiskey brand begins as a blend of 5-8 year old Kentucky straight rye whiskeys, selected by Master Distiller & Blender Rob Dietrich. The rye blend was then finished in Madeira and rum casks for 2-14 weeks each. During the rum finishing, the brand used its proprietary "Black Noise" sonic enhancement process.
The playlist used here consisted entirely of songs from Metallica's Ride the Lightning album. But instead of playing the original album, the tracks played were from a live 2012 festival performance where the band played the album live, but in reverse order. Blackened Rye the Lightning launched in April 2022 as a pre-order with wider availability to follow.

RyeRye produced in the US must be made of at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels (no age requirement). Elsewhere, it will be made according to the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"The Madeira and rum casks really take over the rye notes both on the nose and the palate. In fact, the rum notes in particular are quite prominent and definitely lean more torward the full-flavored/funky side of things. Tropical fruits like roasted pineapple, cooked banana and apricot come through as well as some grapey notes. Some caramel appears as well as some charred oak. If you're a fan of full flavored rye whiskeys, this might not be the product for you. The spice factor is quite low. But if you are just getting into the whiskey category, you might really enjoy this one. No water needed here as whatever rye notes are here will be totally washed out. "
