Blackwell Rum // Jamaica
Blackwell Rum is the creation of Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records and a pioneer in the music industry. Blackwell helped bring the likes of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh to the international stage and has joined forces with Joy Spence (master blender for Appleton Estate) to revive an old family recipe.
Incidentally, his mother's family previously owned Appleton Estate and J. Wray & Nephew.

Dark RumAKA Black Rum. Usually aged (but not always) and has additional caramel-coloring added to provide the dark/black color. Some are distilled from blackstrap molasses. No specific type or size barrel required for aging nor is there a set time required for aging in most countries with a few exceptions.
Tasting Notes
"A rich and somewhat deep, Blackwell Rum is a bit like Jamaican rum for beginners. Sweet and not too funky--the nose is full of tar, sugar crystals, orange peel, cocoa, and cigar box. The palate is fruity and easy with dried fruits, walnut, yeast, and hogo with a rubber note on the finish. There is an easy sweetness and a pleasant balance to this deep but not overly-fussy rum."
