Released in 2008, this bottling is part of the fourth batch of experimental releases by Buffalo Trace. This bourbon was made from BT Rye Mash #1, distilled and barreled in May 1992. After six years and three months in new, charred American oak, BT moved the spirit to a medium-toasted French oak ex-cabernet franc barrel in August 1998. After aging for a total of fourteen years (and 35.
67% evaporation), the barrel was emptied in February 2008 and bottled at 45% ABV. Note that this was a bourbon before it went into the ex-cab franc cask. Under the TTB's interpretation of the law at the time, wine cask finished bourbon had to be labeled as "whiskey." .
