Buffalo Trace Kosher Straight Rye (2020 Release)
Rye
Buffalo Trace // Kentucky, USA
Buffalo Trace Kosher Straight Rye is one of three Kosher whiskey releases from Buffalo Trace Distillery, a limited edition annual release expected to hit shelves after Passover ends in 2020. The certified Kosher whiskey was made with the guidance of the Chicago Rabbinical Council.
In 2012, new American oak Kosher barrels were sold to a non-Jewish Buffalo Trace executive which were filled with a rye mash bill whiskey. In 2020, the bottling lines were flushed to ensure non-Kosher spirit would not be in contact with the matured rye.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.
