Reviewed May 24, 2024 (edited June 4, 2024)The rye market is so saturated with quality ryes (like Old Ezra, Jack Daniels Barrel Proof, Sagamore Spirit, Bardstown--just to name a few), the first emotion of tasting this rye was almost immediately regret that I didn't get the Russel's Reserve single barrel rye instead. Minty dill with a wood note similar to Jack Daniels actually that brings a burnt sugar taste. Unlike the depth of the JD though, this suffers from a faint ethanol note that cheapens the experience to match its price tag. It's still a good whiskey, but the bar has been raised. If that ethanol note can just go away after opening up... -

Reviewed May 15, 2024 (edited June 4, 2024)Glass: Glencairn, rested 15 minutes. Color: Medium amber. Nose: Strong floral and fruit notes. Palate: Oak tannins and some cinnamon. Finish: Long with medium heat. Splash: A pleasant minty note appears. Overall: 8.5/10 - This is a fantastic rye without being too bold. The oak shows up in the palate but in a pleasant way. The spice is somewhat muted in the palate and a few drops of water open up the mint. The finish is long for only 92 proof. Would definitely buy again.Total Wine & More -

Reviewed April 21, 2024 (edited July 5, 2024)BULLEIT RYE 12 YR *GLASS: Neat Glass *COLOR: Mahogany 1.6 bordering on Burnt Umber 1.7. *NOSE: Herbal and woody. Oak, Cedar, Dill, Black Pepper, and Cilantro. I swear I’m getting Sour Cream and Onion Potato Chips? There is a bit of Sweetness on the tail end with some Mint, Licorice, and Vanilla. *NEAT: That Savoriness really translates. Heavy Dill, Mint, Oak Spice, Pepper, and Cedar on the front end. Like the Nose, a Little Sweetness on the backend with the Mint and Vanilla. The age shows on the Clingy Finish with Musty Oak and Leather coating and layering the palate. There is a nice building heat in the chest. *SPLASH: A little water doesn’t change much on the nose. Really dials up the Vanilla and Mint on the palate giving it a Juicy Fruit Gum note. The Mustiness and Leather on the Finish is more pronounced as well. •VERDICT: Impressive is an understatement. Especially when factoring in the age and $55 price tag. That’s unheard of in today’s market. Bulleit has developed an affordable, tasty stable of whiskies. Review on their new American Single Malt coming soon.55.0 USD per Bottle
