This is one of those 40% insults again. A very weak nose. What gets through is okay but nothing more. It has a light fruitiness and some shy florals as well as a bid of oak.
The palate is watery, light, sweet and a bid dry. After a while it gets smoother where before it was a bid unsettled and all over the place. The only thing that would let you guess it 18y age are some sherry-like notes that are at least slightly interesting.
The finish is good though - the best part of it. Nice oak wood even thought still slightly weak. Then it develops a more bitter and even slightly salty finish which makes it a nice / okay whisky in the end.
So, a little disappointing at first but it improves later on. I’m pretty sure 46% ABV and up would make this an genuinely nice whisky. But like this I won’t drink it again. Potential wasted in my opinion. Probably for a different target audience.
Nose: chocolate cherries, smooth with hints of spice, rich, stewed fruit, Granny Smith apples
Body: smooth, a little tannic, not very full-bodies
Palate: earthy, pears in cinnamon, nutmeg, Christmas spice, fig?, a lil chocolate, peat puff at the very end
Finish: medium, woody, chocolate cherries, ice cream
Overall good and pleasing if slightly weak/bland
Deep auburn with a beautiful coat on the glass. Nose is mellow with toffee, vanilla, and subtle cereal notes. Velvet palate, mirroring the nose, showcasing caramel, vanilla and sweet tobacco leaves.
Amazing from start to finish. Is there such thing as too smooth?🏆
Nose: 4* Candy red apples, plums, honey.
Palate: 3,5* Smooth, little coating, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, slightly fruity. lichee
Finish: 3,75* Medium long, light pepper, intense oak, walnuts, pure chocolate, dry honey lingers.
Best neat. Very accessible and quite smooth, not as complex as most other whiskies of this age, but the price justifies this.
