Nose: Very smoky and scotch-like. Rich, but overpowered by the smoke notes.
Taste: Again, it's like the smoke notes take over. I let it sit out a bit to settle down, but the smoke did not abate. There are good flavors in the pour, and a good mouth feel.
Finish: Smooth, and flavorful. The good flavors fade quickly, while smoke aftertastes linger.
I put in some rocks and the smoke mostly went away. The remaining flavors in the pour that were not muted by the cold temp were really good.
I wanted to like this better than 1800, and wanted this to be my new go-to top shelf. Unfortunately, it came up a bit short of that. If you like smoky or lightly peated scotch, this might be the Reposado for you. Try it at a bar first, because $53 is a bit much for a flyer.
