This was an unexpected try for me. I admit I was already a little under when I had the chance to taste, so my impressions can’t be as sharp as I prefer. However,
The nose is sweet like salted caramel and key lime pie, but the palate is practically a juxtaposition with its rather intense woodiness. The same rich limey agave flavor comes through with wood, black pepper and charcoal which sticks to your tongue on the finish. It became more interesting as the spicy finish became numbed, with more of the savory and sweet elements pushing forward. Namely more salted caramel and vanilla. Another reviewer noted ‘celery’ in the finish, and very strangely enough, I agree. There’s also a fair touch of ethanol present. I disliked it at first but it really grew on me once I got past the wood. Maybe I’m just new to añejo..?
