Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Straight Rye

The EHT lineup is one that is almost impossible to find in my area. Perhaps it is Michigan's screwed up allocation system or the many flippers that seem to be around, but even the base small batch is elusive. Managed to get this one through a regular shop before Christmas, but still had to pay up a bit. I do enjoy the standard dram so hopefully this one is a nice. Nose is definitely rye with a nice fresh baked banana nut bread base. First sip is mellow rye. Upfront are honey and a little brown sugar with a light rye base. After that initial sweetness the rye spice pours in with a simmering cinnamon burn that never gets overwhelming, but brings a nice long gang finish. Overall this is a really nice dram. However, the price of entry is just too high. At $70 I'd feel better, but given the fact you can't find it there I'd rather grab a Barrell Rye at the $100 mark. Loses half a point for cost on this one, but still a really nice pour.

Took some time to locate a variant from this reputable distillery. I enjoyed the small batch very much and strived to see what else they could do. Luckily I found this at a reduced yet a little higher than MSRP. For my neck of the woods, the price wasn't terrible. Back to the whiskey which is why I'm here hehe! The nose was mysterious since it changed disguises a couple times. First I got a peppery spice. Then subtle banana and clove. After some time, butterscotch settled in. The sipping experience was more stable and consistent. The expected spicy rye notes came forth with some grunt and persisted through to the long finish. Fortunately, it wasn't alone. Cinnamon and butterscotch sweetness trickled in to balance the equation. The heat was quite tolerable for a 💯. After a bit, you forget it existed. Definitely worth the buy if anyone is on the fence. I must now seek out the single barrel! Cheers! 🍻

Nose is peppery with some lemon and cocoa. Honeysuckle and chamomile notes on palate

Light caramel and vanilla flavors with a pleasantly long peppery finish that lingers.

Nose you definitely get the cracked pepper, cinnamon and long finish of spices. Turning into my new favorite.
