Copper & Kings Blue Sky Mining Brandy
Copper & Kings // USA
Blue Sky Mining is a seven year old muscat brandy release from Copper & Kings. The brandy was finished for 30 months in a hogshead cask constructed from ex-Kentucky bourbon barrel staves, after initial maturation in reconditioned wine barrels. Bottled at 50% ABV and featuring label art from Louisville artist AngryBlue, the expression was released in March 2017, with a total of 600 375-ml bottles.
American BrandyProduced in the US, this is usually referring to brandy distilled from grape-based wine. If the producer uses other fruit, it must be stated on the label. If aged under two years in oak, it must state the word "immature" on the label. Beyond that, labels such as VS, VSOP, and XO mean little as the brands themselves dictate what that means to them.

"Tropical fruits lead on the nose with melons and papaya. There's also grape jelly, rose water, raspberries and blackberries, and blooming flowers. The palate is rich and fruity, with more of those wine and jammy notes, and the oak making its presence felt with a drier, spicier background. A long, smooth finish shows some heat, with notes of bubblegum, more tropical fruit, and bits of pepper, spice, and oak."
