Cragganmore 25 Year (2014 Special Release)
Single Malt
Cragganmore // Speyside, Scotland
The Craggamore distillery sits in Ballindaloch, Speyside, and was only possible through the construction of the Strathspey railway opened in 1863. Founded by John Smith, the distillery always saw a lot of outside interest, with Smith managing the Macallan, Glenlivet, Glenfarclas distilleries before opening his own. A curiosity in the whisky world, the stills at Cragganmore were designed with flat tops as opposed to the usual swan neck.
These flat tops help increase reflux, and in the end give this whisky a complex character more-so than most other Speyside distilleries. The Cragganmore 25 Year Old is a limited edition run for the Diageo Special Release bottlings, with a limited release of 3372 bottles. .

Tasting Notes
"This whisky starts off reminiscent of the old world, with a thick nose of spiced wood, brass, licorice and Port Royal Tobacco. It is elegant with an intelligence behind the nose, the whisky moving gracefully through the senses. Notes of hay, orange rind and a tart spiciness become apparent and even more noticeable with a drop of water. On the palate, smoky wood and lemon fill the mouth before moving onto an aniseed background. Rich barley malt and sparse dried fruits and nuts come together for a trail mix flavor with mild spice dipping in now and then. Lovely from start to finish."
