Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye

The best rye whiskeys are velvety and spicy, with a lingering peppery zip in the finish. This has some sweetness but otherwise does not have those qualities. It's not as rich as I like. The finish is a little thin.

I can't see myself drinking this straight, but it does have a bit of depth. The whiskey is harsh and its flavor is predominantly the sour bitterness of rye with hints of wood, occasional pops of sweet fruit, and an unfortunately oppressive layer of clove that makes up bulk of the finish. For its price, this is a very good whiskey and is a great choice for mixing.

Nice balance of fruit, grain, spice, and heat. For the price, this is the best Crown product available.
