Reviewed December 15, 2020 (edited April 4, 2021)I'm back, what did I miss? Well it was a long arduous 24hr break from alcohol but I made it through the grueling period of abstinence...break period officially over! Haha na that endeavour starts on NY day so I thought it would be rude not to slip a couple more reviews in before then. I was wandering out for dinner with family and ended up wandering by Wellingtons new urban gin distillery. The distillery is lovely. They have a small little space and right beside the tables a large glass window displaying a beautiful copper still behind it. They won a couple of awards and I can see why. This was my favorite of the three offerings. A classic London Dry style Gin steeped with Horopito, Kawakawa and nine other botanicals. Had a lovely mouth warming Pepper taste from the Horopito with a citrus backbone. Horopito has long been used by the indigenous Maori population of New Zealand both internally and externally for many purposes. As far back as 1848, Horopito is documented in the treatment of skin diseases such as ringworm, or for venereal diseases or in current day times athletes foot apparently. Also on the less dire scale toothache and stomachache. I'm happy to say i have none of the aforementioned but I do love the fiery Pepper taste (derived from the leaves) and i can also see why it goes also by the name Pepper tree. I would have bought a bottle but wasn't keen to try and polish off 700mls before 1st Jan to remove temptation.
