"To my surprise this is my favorite Don Julio expression so far. The nose is indistinguishable from the anejo, no surprise there, but after filtration, along with the color it took the bitterness with it, making this a smoooth elegant supper. Love. Much love. Much much love.
When it comes to tequila I generally only prefer the extra anejo. This one is crystal clear which worries me from the start, but it was a free pour at a family gathering so let's give it a go.
Nose is typical smooth sweetness of premium tequilas. Nothing off putting here so that is a good start.
First sip is a bit of citrus that mellows the traditional tequila. This almost comes across as a gin inspired tequila. There is a bit of alcohol heat in the middle here, but overall it is relatively smooth.
Overall this isn't bad for a clear tequila. I wouldn't trade it in for the extra anejos, but it was better than I expected. If you are a tequila fan this is probably a nice variant to try.
