I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t behind this bourbon. I’ve read the reviews and tasting notes, but it all escapes me. This bourbon is good, but not great. Maybe the barrel proof version is better?
For me, it’s thin on taste and finish. The nose is typical (vanilla, oak, brown sugar), but nothing special although does open up more as it sits a few minutes. It’s fairly smooth, but just not what I was expecting it to be based on reviews. Since they removed the age statement, I’m wondering if that made the quality/what you get a bit of lottery where one bottle is great while another is nothing special.
You can certainly do worse than this bourbon, but I’d be skeptical of the raving reviews. I don’t typically drink bourbon in cocktails, so my experience is based on drinking it neat. In a cocktail, this bourbon would be perfectly fine.
