Élixir Végétal de la Grande-Chartreuse
Chartreuse // France
Élixir Végétal de la Grande-Chartreuse has been made by the Chartreuse monks since 1764 according to instructions they received by the Duc d'Estrées in 1605. It is made from 130 medicinal and aromatic plants and flowers. It is sold in a wooden box to protect the bottle from the light. Serving recommendations include adding a few drops to a sugar cube or to serve in sugared water. Note: Sold in 100ml sized bottles and not available in the US.
Herbal/Spice LiqueursHerbal and/or spiced liqueurs make up a bulk of the liqueur family. Oftentimes the recipe or formula is top secret and decades if not centuries old and were created for “medicinal purposes.” Any type of liquor can form the base. Sugar is added prior to bottling.
