Reviewed December 25, 2024Batch No. 5/6 Bottle No. 185/9961 Color: Medium-light Copper/Amber Nose: Somewhat light nose of maple, leather, tobacco. Palate: Drank neat (first pour). Smoky, spicy, slightly sweet, mild chest hug. Something akin to, "mint" or "menthol" hits you on the mid palate. This stuff is a blend of double oaked bourbon and double oaked rye — hence the "X 4 oaked" tag. So there's a good dose of "oak" here. I'd say it's fairly complex, but very balanced at the same time. I drank a second glass with an ice cube, and that brought out some nice butterscotch notes. Finish: Medium with holiday spices and cooling mint. Final Thoughts: This was a Christmas gift from my lady. I've seen Frank August Small Batch on the shelves at my grocery store for many months now, but I never really gave it a second thought, as I didn't want to take a chance on an $85.00 bottle from a Distillery that I was not familiar with. However, I'd say Frank August has earned my respect, and that the price that my wife paid for this limited release was somewhat justified. To me, this is on par with Blanton's and other similarly-heralded bottles. 4.25 stars.Pavilions
