Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Añejo Tequila 18 Años
Tequila Extra Añejo
Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
The Fuenteseca 18 year expression is a blend of tequila distilled in copper double-column stills (75%) and copper alembic stills (25%). The spirit was initially aged for six years in Canadian white oak casks previously used for Canadian rye whiskey at an elevation of 4,600' in Atotonilco el Alto. The tequila was then extracted, blended, and re-barreled, with some going into Canadian white oak (47%) and the rest into European oak barrels previously used to age California red wine (53%).
The barrels were moved to the cooler climate of El Chapingo for twelve more years of aging. The tequila is bottled at 43.5% ABV.

Tequila Extra AñejoDistilled from 100% blue Weber agave, it is aged for at least 3 years in barrels not to exceed 600 liters. Any type of wood is acceptable, although ex-bourbon barrels are most common. Extra Añejo tequilas are also known as "ultra aged".
Tasting Notes
"Eighteen years of barrel aging renders this a remarkably gentle tequila. The nose offers notes of agave and brandied pears. "Smooth" is an excessively used adjective when it comes to tequila, but there's no avoiding its use here. The spirit is mellow yet complex, with hints of toffee and brown sugar. This is one of the more unique expressions of aged agave one is ever likely to come across."
