Glenallachie 2008 Single Cask 11 Year Old

Reviewed July 10, 2021Found this one in a gift package and was quite suprised by the strong and sherry-ish nose of this special whisky. Loads of Milka Chocolate too, with some slow vanilla and citrus juice essence. Really hits the tongue right from the start, huge alcohol kick, very warm mouthfeel, very 'autumny' and cozy. Dark fruits mingle with vanilla, chocolate, almonds, hints of anise and sage, powerful and filled with herbs and spices. Sherry and Madeira wine in the aftertaste, combined with wood and dust. Fairly soft burn, compared to the kick it had when entering the mouth. A tad to heavy for me, and definately not one for everyday, although I am fairly enthousiastic of the special and complex palate. But personally, I like them a lot smoother. -

Reviewed November 19, 2020 (edited December 17, 2020)Nose: Sweet sherry, wine, dark fruit Palate: Chocolate cherries, figs, apricots Finish: Cocoa, coffee, fruit cake. Distilled: July 2008 Bottled: February 2020 1 of 773 bottles Matured in a single Pedro Ximenez puncheon over the entire maturation period. This is a serious sherry bomb! I am a big fan of Glenallachie. I especially like some of their single casks and indie bottlings, the spirit stands up well to experimentation and seems to thrive in the hands of enthusiasts. This expression is a real stand out. There is a tangible unicorn feel to this dram. It’s an absolute cracker!89.95 GBP per Bottle
