Aficionados like ourselves are inclined to dislike mass-produced whiskies like Jack Daniels and Johnnie Walker. I felt the same way with Glenfiddich, especially after trying the 12 YO. “Another product without nuance, made without tradition or passion.” After visiting the distillery, I have to admit I couldn’t be further from the truth. Aside from malting, they still do everything like they did when they first started. They even have their own coopers and spirit safe operator. Additionally, they try all kinds of crazy stuff with casks and maturation to stay ahead in the game, one of which is this 15 YO Solera Cask. So, my deepest respect to Glenfiddich; their popularity is more than deserved. As for this whisky, my favorite of the four I've tasted at the distillery (others being the 12 and 18 year old and the Original): I can’t recall specific notes, but I remember that it’s deliciously fruity, a bit floral, sweet, and has a lovely finish. I will definitely buy a bottle sometime soon.
