Glenkinchie 10 Year
Glenkinchie // Lowlands, Scotland
The Glenkinchie 10 Year, also called "The Edinburgh Malt," was produced from 1987 to 2007 before it was replaced with the Glenkinchie 12 Year. In 1988, it was released as one of the six single malt whiskies for "Classic Malts of Scotland." It's also one of the six whiskies produced in the Lowlands region, in East Lothian, and is currently owned by Diageo.
Single MaltDistilled in pot stills from 100% malted barley, produced at one distillery, aged in barrels; if Scotch or Irish, must be aged for at least three years.
"It's adult breakfast cereal in a glass, with dominant flavors of toasted barley, wheat flakes and general maltiness. Some milk chocolate and vanilla come through in the mid palate, along with roasted pears, apple and a hint of wildflower. Very mild, smooth and pleasant, this is one of the great starter whiskies, either for newbies getting to know Scotch or as a way to kick off a night of good sipping. "
