Guillon-Painturaud is a family-owned grower-producer in Cognac. The plot of land where their ugni blanc grows is 18 hectares and surrounds their home which has been in the family since 1610. In the 1970's they ceased selling their product to large cognac houses and have bottled it under their family name. This practice is still very rare in the region now, and was nothing short of revolutionary at the time. After the grapes ferment, they are distilled unfiltered with the goal of making cognacs with a richer, fuller character derived from the base wines and not from additives like caramel syrups.Their VSOP is aged, on average, 15 years and has no additives.

Tasting Notes

"The cognacs made at Guillon Painturaud have a very pretty, welcoming character, but also have a great weight and a powerful focus. The VSOP is aged for an average of 15 years -- far more than the four years mandated by French law. This slumber in used oak barrels is necessary to naturally coax out flavors of butter cookies, almond pastry, and candied orange rind. Superb barrel management leaves no dry oak tannin, but rather a palate filled with delicious fruit and detail. "
