Valknut is the second single malt in the Viking Legend series following Valkyrie released in spring 2017. It is made with a small amount of Orkney-grown Tartan barley and has a "slightly higher phenolic level" than Valkyrie. The whisky matured in American oak ex-sherry casks and was bottled at 46.8% ABV. Danish designer Jim Lyngvild designed the bottles for the range (including Valfather expected in 2019). Valknut, meaning "‘knot of those killed in battle", features three interlocked triangles used in Norse mythology to represent these honorable soldiers.

Tasting Notes

"Prunes and walnuts open up the nose, along with stewed fruits, heather, and hay. An oily palate showcases the phenolic side of this whisky, with peat, burnt-rubber tires, ash, and campfire smoke leading off in front of peanut butter cookies, spicy oak, black pepper, and oatmeal. More peppery peat on the finish, with dark chocolate covered raisins and syrupy fruit cups."
