Hunter & Scott Bourbon Whiskey

Nice flavor without a strong burn. Aroma has a touch of vanilla and a touch medicinal. Flavor has a fruity, cherry-but-sweeter-? middle with a mild spicy rye finish. Adding ice really kicks up the intensity on this one.

Capsule review from Virginia Spirits Expo: Described as, " the younger brother of Reservoir’s premium whiskies." At an age of 18 months it certainly is. However, it should be noted that Hunter & Scott is a blend of both sourced barrels from KY and IN as well as their own new make- so the age most likely reflects the younger distillate. On the nose there's cherry and a sweet fruity candy like Jujyfruits. The palate has Green Apple and finishes with a youthful grain. It's a good start- would love to see this blended with older new make over time.

The single grain (corn, of course) is Reservoir’s signature and they really deliver on the higher priced bottles. This particular bottle has grown on me but still a bit too much bite for such a low proof. Some light vanilla on the nose and again on the palate (not much else) and the finish becomes a little smoother after each sip. For a $35-40 bottle, there are plenty of others I’d buy over this one. But as a Richmonder, it’s nice to support local businesses.
