Coming out swinging tonight boys! Rating 2 in a night! Have some making up to do. Plus, I'm watching the Peaky Blinders finale. This show puts me in the mood to drink in general.
The wife gifted me a bottle of Blue for Father's Day and was ecstatic. Lots of history and polarization behind it. Awesome or overrated, etc. I'll be the judge/jury best I can. The only experience I have with JW is consuming a bottle of Double Black which I loved lol!
I'm about halfway through this bottle and I must say I can see why the hype is strong yet others are not as impressed. IMHO I feel this is a quality pour. Is it worth the $$$? That's up for interpretation. (To me yes) After having double black, I can make a distinct comparison. DB is the hard working, rugged, rough around the edges type. Blue is the upscale, fancy pants, artsy fartsy version. Both are peated significantly. But where DBlack socks you in the taste buds, Blue gently massages your palate. The woody character is sophisticated. There is also a floral aspect to Blue which is quite nice. Hints of dark fruit as well. The smoke endures for a while on the finish which I totally appreciate. Drinks dangerously like water to boot. My advice. If you haven't had this yet, what are you waiting for? If it's been ages since you seasoned veterans have drank this, time for a revisit. Good night and God bless.
