Koch el Mezcal Lumbre
Mezcal Joven
Koch el Mezcal // Oaxaca, Mexico
Koch el de Mezcal was created to celebrate and preserve “authentic” Oaxacan culture and to help reinvigorate the dying art of mezcal making. By bringing producers of true artisanal mezcal together under the Koch brand, they have been able to reach many more people, bring money into communities and celebrate this truly historical spirit.
This bottling is produced using 100% agave de Lumbre. It is made traditionally with an earthen pit to cook the agave and a tahona to crush them.

Tasting Notes
"This mezcal is for those of you out there looking for a powerful, but still very sophisticated flavor. The profile begins on the nose with lots of chestnuts, pear, agave syrup, cinnamon and black pepper. While the fruit is probably the most assertive aspect, the palate is filled with licorice root, grilled pine cones, wood char, cedar, terra cotta (though it is not distilled in clay) and a burst of sandalwood on the finish. Fairly playful for such a robust mezcal and while big, the alcohol is very well contained and the texture quite alluring. It is also quite tannic for a Koch release and has a long dry finish."
