Lagavulin 8 Year

Nose is sweet and strongly peaty. Nice, complicated flavor, but harsh. Burns a bit. Strong peat flavor and finishes sweet. Needs to be mellowed a bit.

This came in an advent calendar. I’m a fan of the peat. This is pretty Smokey on the nose which is right up my alley. This is a little more astringent that the lag16 on the palette. It takes a little to hit the ‘sweet’ spot. All in all great dram with a lot of flavor.

After 8 min rest; Nose is peat smoke, some bright citrus or orchard fruit notes. Iodine, caramel, vanilla, butterscotch. Taste: begins with moderate smoke, sweet caramel, apple, vanilla, then butterscotch, citrusy note towards the back of the palate, ends on a campfire and gentle long last smoke and caramel.
