Maker's Mark 46 Cask Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 10, 2021 (edited April 13, 2021)Nose after 15 min rest: Definite vanilla oak on the nose, mint and pepper, medium caramel, red cherry. Compared to MM, nose demonstrates much more wood and character. Taste: Vanilla oak and mint, a sweet vanilla and brown sugar, caramel body with the warming alcohol that comes at cask strength. Taste continues to develop with some cherry cola notes later on and ending with residual spice, brown sugar, and cola. Very late chocolate note. Moderately long finish -
Nose after about 10min rest: Caramel, orange, and spice seem to be most dominant initially. Darker fruits such as black cherry and butter, figgy raisin, almond, vanilla, butterscotch, strawberry, honey, ginger Taste: begins with medium caramel, a touch of salt before moving to vanilla and fruit. In the fruit there is black cherry, moving to strawberry, fig, then finishing again with black cherry. Some astringency in the taste, darker more aged type finish versus sharp bright found in younger pours. Moderate finish.

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 10, 2021 (edited April 13, 2021)Nose- very similar to 101, exhibits stronger nose with less char noticeable compared to 101. Sweet caramel, rye spice, vanilla, grapey bubblegum and less black pepper, adds black tea deeper in glass. Taste: leads with a nice sweetish bourbon followed by black pepper spices and heat, meaty rye caramel, dusty floor boards, vanilla, ending on a dark chocolate char and black tea note. Seems to get better with successive sips. Now has a milked tea note on the third sip. Good moderately long length of finish. -
