Color: Medium Amber
Nose: Toasted marshmallow; hot cocoa mix; Dough. A great nose.
Palate: (Drank with an ice cube) Syrupy sweet on the first sip. The proof makes itself known immediately by way of a big warm chest hug. Oak char, and a burst of spiciness that tingles the tongue follows. Upon swirling this juice around in my mouth, a quick hint of "citrus" comes through. There's a lot going on here, and I'm trying to figure it all out on this maiden voyage. Subsequent pours reveal similar sweetness and spiciness, with some of the "dough" from the nose carrying over to the palate.
Finish: Long, with a predominance of oak barrel char and baking spices... and ever-so-slightly fruity. Slightly drying.
Final Thoughts: These annual batches... they're so hard to rate, going on comparisons to previous releases. I generally can't hold onto them long enough to put them up against each other. Looking back at my Larceny history here on Distiller, every batch I have tried has earned at least 3.75 stars. This A125 is a decent batch.in its own right, and I am going to give it 4.0 stars. It's not particularly unique, but it's a potent pour with the character that I'd expect from 125 Proof.
