Strathisla 42 Year (Duncan Taylor Lonach)
Duncan Taylor // Speyside, Scotland
Distilled in 1967 at the Strathisla distillery, this expression was bottled at cask strength in 2009. The distillery was built in 1786 on the river Isla, and in 1950 it was purchased by Chivas Brothers. Duncan Taylor is an independent bottler that specializes in bottlings of this age with Lonach being one of their brands of single malt bottlings.
Single MaltDistilled in pot stills from 100% malted barley, produced at one distillery, aged in barrels; if Scotch or Irish, must be aged for at least three years.
"Pale straw in color, and only bottled at 41.1% which for a cask strength is quite low but not once you know the age of the whisky. Soft cinnamon with a little vanilla on the nose this dram develops a little slowly. Doesn't seem to be over-complicated, but it is quite a sipper. Finishes long and sweet with a bit of toffee and slight salinity."
