Their 50/50 Dark Rum combines pot-still cane rum that the brand distills at its facilities with imported aged molasses rum. The distillery then ages the blend for at least six months, adding a touch of molasses before it’s bottled at 80 proof.

Dark RumAKA Black Rum. Usually aged (but not always) and has additional caramel-coloring added to provide the dark/black color. Some are distilled from blackstrap molasses. No specific type or size barrel required for aging nor is there a set time required for aging in most countries with a few exceptions.

"This amber-hued rum has a rich, sweet aroma of molasses and vanilla. On the palate, however, an almost caramel-like quality sits for a moment on the back of the tongue before dissipating. What remains is a spicy, slightly hot flavor and feeling. This rum would stand up well when mixed in a cocktail like the Dark 'n' Stormy."
