Manatawny Still Works Small Batch Whiskey (Batch #3)
American Single Malt
Manatawny Still Works // Pennsylvania, USA
Manatawny Still Works released their first batch on Friday, December 5, 2014, the anniversary of the repeal of prohibition and the signing of the 21st Amendment. They plan to release several small experimental batches while they wait for their whiskey to age. This is their 3rd Batch Release.
It was aged for 226 days in new, thirty-gallon honeycomb barrels. The honeycomb design increases the surface area of the barrel allowing more wood sugars to be dissolved quicker, resulting in a strong oak influence. The mashbill is 80% Munich Malt and 20% Pale Malt.

Tasting Notes
"The oak is clear and present in the aroma, imparting the usual vanilla and burnt sugar and spice. On the palate, there's sweet cherry, malted vanilla milkshake, and a fair amount of wood influence which thankfully doesn't overpower this young spirit. There's a creamy, malty mouthfeel that gives way to a finish of dried fruits and salted caramel. That finish is a little too hot, which knocks this otherwise harmonious whiskey out of a balance a bit. "
