Mezcal Amarás Cupreata
Mezcal Amarás // Guerrero, Mexico
Released in the summer of 2015, this is a mezcal produced with 100% agave cupreata (aka papalote). The agaves are sourced from the slopes of the Sierra Madre del Sur mountain range and distilled in the village of Mazatlán in the state of Guerrero. Natural fermentation takes place in open pine vats and this is double-distilled in a copper pot-still. Unaged, this is bottled at 86 proof.
Mezcal JovenA spirit distilled from one or more different varieties of agave. Can only be produced in designated areas within 8 different Mexican states. Must be bottled in México. This is unaged or aged in stainless steel or plastic containers before bottling.
"The aroma is funky and intense (in a good way). Sweet green herbs (think tarragon), grilled banana leaves and a light smoke are some of the aromas you'll find. There's an oily quality that helps to cushion the mezcal on your palate. An abundance of green vegetal flavors envelope your senses. This is the kind of mezcal for the person who has no problem traveling alone, still listens to vinyl, and relishes eating offal."
