Mezcal Vago Ensamble en Barro
Mezcal Joven
Mezcal Vago // Oaxaca, Mexico
In contrast to his single-variety mezcals, this special bottling is made from whichever plants are at their peak maturity, meaning that each successive batch will have a different varietal composition.
For this batch, Tío Rey loaded up his trademark clay pot-still with Espadín (62%), Coyote (28%) and Mexicano (10%) agaves.

Tasting Notes
"Soft, complex, almost Scotch-like, the sweet wood smoke and melon-dominated aroma of this mezcal doesn't quite prepare you for its all-out smoked-chili and medicinal assault on the palate. There are a lot of interesting things going on here, but there are two distinct components that seems to stand in opposition to each other rather than contribute to a greater whole, one warm, delicate, and seductive (no doubt that's the Coyote speaking), and the other dark, brooding, and intensely focused, perhaps more conventional."
