Extra Old is a blend of rums aged for 7, 8 and 10 years and matured in used American oak barrels that had previously held bourbon, Mount Gay Extra Old (often called "XO") is a sipping rum that also mixes nicely into cocktails that would traditionally call for whiskey.
Aged RumRum that is aged, but no specific type or size barrel required. No set time required for length of aging, but will often carry an age statement (which should be taken with a grain of salt). Often thought of as "sipping rums".
"Rich toffee, caramel and vanilla is at the forefront of the bouquet with undertones of raisins, cinnamon and oak. On the palate, the entry is soft and smooth, with caramel and vanilla leading, before a bit of an alcohol punch, some oak and lively fruit. There is an undercurrent of oak, and some baking spice notes come out towards the end. The finish brings a bit of cinnamon bark, fresh mint and just a hint of cocoa."
