Value for money, I give it that. It's hot with or without water, but water certainly opens it up. People describing it as "smooth" must have a different batch. It lacks any oiliness, or fullness.
That said, it's a pretty good barrel proof Bourbon. Lots of brown sugar and vanilla, with a lingering spiciness that will appeal to many.
Apple, sugar, caramel on the nose, cinnamon spice kicks in on the palate with burnt sugar, toffee, cocoa, pecans, long tingly finish. One of those dark, autumnal bourbons. Good comp for Dickel 13yr BiB, Old Forester 1920, Stellum Hunter’s Moon. In a blind test this got second.
This is my absolute favorite sub-$100 whiskey.
It came out a few years ago at $40/bottle; then quickly escalated to $70 when they couldn't keep it on the shelves.
