Old Fitzgerald Prime Bourbon 80 Proof

I like this one it sweet with lots of vanilla and just a slight burn good as a everyday drinker.

Picked up a handle of this while in KY. Yes, it’s only 80 proof and likely only 4 years old. But jeez, I was impressed by the flavors that were going on. Yesterday, I tasted and reviewed Basil Hayden’s 10 year rye, also 80 proof and costs 7 times as much. This more flavorful and I’m not sure how. The nose is far more clear, sweet basic bourbon flavors of caramel and vanilla, the palate brings that same sweetness and a touch of nuttiness and yeast/bread. The finish is expectedly short, but is a nice mellow end to the pour. Perfectly approachable and impressive for the price. I wish bottom shelf KY exclusives were available here in TX. As good as my beloved Ezra Brooks? No, but still a bottom shelf bargain.

Simple. This whiskey is simple. Not bad, but not overwhelming. Not much bite, smooth and simple.

I love the old fitz bib bottles I’ve had so let’s give this one a try! Nose: fruity and caramel but super faint. Palate: sweet up front with some rye spice coming through. Definitely a bit hot for being 80 proof. Finish: very very short and sweet. It’s like someone took an old fitz bib and only aged it for a couple years. Overall: not much too on this one. Didn’t expect much but there’s also not much there! $10 and I’d say better than its price but not much haha.
