Overall: The best of the Whiskey Row Series from Old Forester. About as good as the hype machine Birthday Bourbon. For a 115 proof, this is quite smooth, and a decent value for $50-$60. Add it to your bar. It’s not complex, but pretty balanced and a good pour served neat.
Color: dark gold. Picked up some nice char despite being in the ballpark of 4 years old. No sediment, most likely chill filtered.
Nose: lots of spice, some vanilla, cherries. The rye is forward but not overpowering.
Taste: Spice on the front, cherries and black pepper on the back. Not a whole lot of heat.
Finish: Pretty long. Dry, cherries and figs in the back of the throat. Very nice.
