Old Forester // Kentucky, USA
Launching February 2019, Old Forester Rye is the first new mash bill for the brand in 150 years. It is inspired by a historic recipe for Normandy Rye, a brand acquired by Brown-Forman in 1940.
It has a mash bill of 65% rye, 20% malted barley, and 15% corn -- a fairly higher amount of malted barley than is typically seen in a rye. This Kentucky Straight Rye is bottled at 100 proof.

RyeUnlike bourbon, rye whiskey can be made anywhere in the world. But if made in the US, the mash bill recipe must be at least 51% rye and it must be aged in new, charred oak barrels with no age requirement. Elsewhere, the rye whiskey will be made keeping the country of origin's rules regarding the recipe and minimum aging.

Tasting Notes
"An affordable, 100 proof rye from Old Forester is an exciting new offering, and this whiskey has a unique mash bill and flavor profile to stand out from the crowd. The palate is strikingly unusual, with a big hit of clove. It offers a good balance of sweet and heat, with flavors of vanilla, cherrywood, and a mildly medicinal note. The finish is sweet with a bit of maple. It's likely to make an excellent choice for complex Manhattans."
