Old Forester enjoys the unique history of being the first bottled bourbon. In the 1800's, whiskey was generally sold by brands to a wide variety of businesses who then bottled the products as they saw fit. This of course left the door open to tampering, and other issues that affected the quality of the whiskey itself. In 1870 a young man named George Garvin Brown saved up and raised money, and together with his brother started a small company called JTS Brown and Bro, where they released the first ever bottled bourbon, known as Old Forester. This 90 proof single barrel offering is a continuation of that legacy.
