Poli Cleopatra Amarone Oro

Reviewed September 5, 2025Last but not least in this initial Poli flight is the Cleopatra Amarone. I've had some pretty amazing Amarone wine while traveling in Italy, so I'm curious to see how that compares to the Moscato. Certainly they couldn't be more different from the wine perspective. Nose: This one smells the most like grapes, black currant and a hint of black cherry. Palate: Somehow light and fruity and dark and brooding. Is that possible or have I already had too much? Deep red wine and more black currant. Finish: Sweetens and warms the back of your throat. Black cherry kicks into high gear here and you truly get the true essence of the Amarone. These three tasters have completely opened my eyes to what Grappa/Marc can be. It's truly a concentration of all the best and unique parts of the grape. Now I wish I could try a bunch of other varietals in a properly made pomace spirit like this. I can only imagine what the sassicaia is going to be like. Going to save that one for a rainy day though.
